1. My other class on Chinese modern history has been talking about the communist party and the republican party's ideological conflict. Although the Republican party focused on nationalism and hoping to transition to democracy, and the community party focused on class struggles, history showed that they both ended up with dictatorship and authoritarianism. Democracy has never been the rule of people, but always has been the rule of some people - the elite, the dominant groups, men, white people and etc.
In our contemporary environment where there is so much violence and inequity, how do we shift our view from national and individual interests to community interests?
2. What does collectivism even mean? Can the existence of government coexist with peace and equity?
